This is pure fluff and mind candy. Syzygy left me so upset and then the next episode totally ignored what happened in it that I'd thought I'd write my own little conclusion. I'm going to send this to Extreme Possibilities first [I think that's the name.] in honor of their start. I want to believe. This has absolutely no relationship to anything else I've done and I don't have a sequel planned but should I get enough requests I might consider one. ;-) Later, Eowyn Okay, everyone knows the drill. I don't own them I'm simply making them behave as two grown up adults who want to have a love life. Chris Carter owns them and is apparently under the same delusion, as most of the males in Hollywood, that once a couple is together all the romance and excitement goes out of the relationship and their lives. Why do all these people have the mentality of twelve year old boys? Sorry I'm kibitzing to the choir again. Rating PG for language. Third season spoiler of Syzygy. That's all. And believe it or not it turns out to be a romance. If you want a follow up be warned it'll probably be NC-17. E me at eowyn7@ix.netcom.com. And now on with the show.... Syzygy Redux By Eowyn Evenstar eowyn7@ix.netcom.com. The road ahead was a black ribbon that wound into the night. Special Agent Fox Mulder glanced over at his companion. She'd been a bitch from minute one. It had been an old map and hadn't taken into account an interstate bypass that had been added recently. Still, that was no reason to get her nickers in such a twist as they used to say when he was at Oxford. He hadn't exactly been a model of decorum but nothing like the snit she was in. He told himself. Scully had been right White had handled the case like a small town hick cop. The reports he had spouted at her were what he believed as well but he shifted it all on to Scully. Letting her play the heavy. As the when suddenly occurred to him he shuddered. He stopped and gulped at that thought. Fox Mulder suddenly flashed to a vision of himself on top of his partner, kissing her, inside her. He felt himself getting hard. He reached for his briefcase, took the half empty bottle of vodka out of it and took a drink. Scully looked with disgust over at him from her position behind the wheel. He defended himself. "I'm thirsty." "Well alcohol isn't the way to quench your thirst." "Get off it, Scully, I'm sick of your superior attitude." "My superior attitude you arrogant SOB." She was too furious to drive. She saw a dirt road and turned down it driving for a quarter of a mile before parking in a stand of bushes and trees. She opened the car door and got out slamming it after her. He took another long drink. Before getting out of the car. He wasn't ready to apologize. Some of it had been her fault, too. "Come on, Scully, get back in the car." Mulder walked up to stand behind her. "No. You're a bastard, Mulder, and I'm not riding with you." "Don't be stupid, how the hell else are we going to get anywhere." "I don't give a damn. I'm not going to get back in that car with you." "Fine, be like that. Give me the keys and I'll send someone back for you when I get to DC. You can explain it to Skinner." They both knew that Washington was several hours away and that that suggestion was ludicrous. He hoped that it would make her see how silly she was being. "I'm not going to be stuck out here in the middle of nowhere, Fox. I'll send someone back for you." And calling him that, in that tone of voice. The sarcasm practically dripping. "Give me the keys and get in the car or I'll pick you up and carry you." "Just try it, and see how far you get." He pretended to turn away then swung swiftly around and tried to grab her by the waist. She was ready for him and had him flat on his back in seconds, the wind knocked out of him. Dana Scully stood looking down at him a smug smile on her face. A red haze covered his vision and he struck out with one of his long legs sweeping it against her legs and knocking her to the ground, slightly winded. He was on top of her in an instant. "Now give, Scully. We're going to have to get these suits dry cleaned as it is." He sniffed, "Why do you smell like cigarette smoke?" "Because I've been smoking." "You smoke?" Fox Mulder drew back shocked. "No, not normally. I did my last year of high school but gave it up. I found that I didn't really like it. Last night I just felt like I wanted one. Okay." "Do you smoke afterwards?" She was puzzled by his question until she realized what he meant then her anger that had begun to dissipate, returned. "Get off me you big macho lummox." She pushed at him. "That's twice you've called me macho. Well if your going to call me one I'm going to act the part." Was his last comment before leaning down and kissing her. He hadn't planned more that a brief kiss... he wanted to...? He didn't know what he wanted to do except kiss her but instead of the resistance he'd expected he felt her stiffen and then relax into his kiss. She parted her lips inviting him in and he took her up on the invitation. They kissed for a long time. Their lips would break apart and then come back together neither one wanting to stop. After a few minutes he began to be afraid that he would hurt her laying on her on the hard ground so he rolled over onto his back bringing her with him. They kissed some more. Finally breaking apart she sighed and put her head on his chest. Neither one willing to break the silence. He held her tight not wanting to move. The exhaustion and craziness of the day got to them and they fell asleep. They awoke at dawn. Romantic man that he was his first words where, "Shit. My butts asleep from this hard ground. Couldn't you have picked a soft field to fight in?" "If I had you'd be covered in mud from trying to get the car unstuck." She sat up smiling, she was feeling much better than he was because his chest had made a wonderful pillow to sleep on. She stood up and reached a hand down to help him up. Mulder stood up and stretched. His muscles aching and joints cracking. Finally he met her eyes. Casting her a chagrinned smile he guided her back to the car. He opened the front door but instead of getting in or stepping aside to let her in he popped the lock and opened the back door. She didn't say anything as she climbed in the back seat, merely raised her eyebrow at him. He explained, "I think we should talk, don't you?" She nodded yes and scooted over so that he could join her. "So, Mulder, is this where you read me the rule book about not becoming involved with a colleague or where you tell me your work is too important to you for anything to interfere with it?" "I should tell you both those things but you know them better than I do. This is where I point out that I'm a screwed up bastard and a relationship with me is only going to serve as career suicide. I'm way too single minded and don't pay enough attention to those around me. I hare off on my own with great regularity and a relationship with me isn't going to change that. I'd also like to point out that I'm often inconsiderate and sometimes balanced on a precarious edge of sanity and definitely paranoid." Dana heard him out knowing that he was trying to let her down easy. She was very much afraid that he was going to tell her that the partnership was over. She was startled by his next words. "But you know all these things don't you? So what I'm going to tell you is that I've been a blind fool and that if you want to get involved I'd like to very much. There hasn't been anyone in my life in a long time probably because having you as a partner met almost all my needs. I had companionship, someone to talk to, someone to depend on and trust, and someone who cared about me. It's only been in the last couple of months that another need has been driving me but you've known that, too. Haven't you?" At her nod of yes he continued. "Dana, I really want to get laid. I've been as horny as hell for the last couple of months and I guess it's become obvious but when it came down to it... Well I couldn't do it with anybody else. Detective White... she was coming on to me. Yeah, I know she was only taking me up on the offers I'd been making since we started that case. But the truth was when she came on to me I wanted to run, and suddenly she was on top of me and all I could do was try to gently shove her off. I felt like hell for leading her on but I wasn't going to do anything with her. If you hadn't come in... I wouldn't have succumbed to her charms." He looked at his partner with sincerity in his eyes, "As much as I thought I wanted to be with a woman I'm finding that the only woman I want to be with is you. If you'll have me that is?" Dana Scully didn't know what to say or do. She'd never thought that Fox Mulder would want to make time in his life for a serious relationship. "Mulder, I don't want a one night stand or brief fling." "I know that. I wasn't talking about a temporary thing. Look, Dana if it wasn't for all the secret government conspiracies and the FBI rules I'd probably be proposing marriage right now but we can't. I don't want to lose you as my partner in the X-files so we're going to have to keep this a secret but I want to be with you." She nodded and cuddled up next to him. "Is that a yes?" He asked. "That's a yes, Mulder." "Fox." She leaned back and looked up at him. "I thought you didn't like... I mean even Phoebe...?" "I know but I want what we have to be special, I want to hear my name on your lips. Only when we're alone though." She smiled one of her brilliant smiles at him and reached up and kissed him. The kiss quickly grew in passion until he had to pull away or embarrass himself. "Dana I'd love to continue this but some poor farmer is libel to get the shock of his life." He smiled at the grin he saw on her face before finishing. "Let's head back to DC and continue this conversation in a more appropriate setting." She didn't say anything just kissed him again and got out of the back seat of the car handing him the keys. "It's your turn to drive, Mulder." And so it goes.... Do you want more?
