(Does anyone even read this stuff?) Dana Scully and Fox Mulder do not belong to me. They belong to Chris Carter, 1013 Productions, FOX, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. I am just borrowing them for a little while, so please don't sue me. I don't have any money anyway, I'm just a poor student. Author's notes: I am writing this little piece, because my VCR is broken!!!! Now I can't watch my tapes with "The X-Files", so I'm just letting all my anger out here. I was also listening to Jewel's "Foolish Games" over and over again when I wrote this, that's why the ending has a lot of.... Well, you'll know when you've read that far. ;-) I just can't keep from crying when I listen to that song. Thanx. Wettergren *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* F.B.I. Headquarters, Washington DC X-Files Division Monday, 8:15 am Dana Scully had been feeling so happy when she had drown into the office that morning. Lately, she and Mulder had become even closer. They talked more, about things that had nothing to do with aliens, UFOs, monsters or Cancerman. They just talked. About life, about everything, and it felt so good. But that had all changed when she stepped into the office she shared with Mulder down in the basement. "Hi, Mulder", she said to him as usual when she came into the office. She took her coat off, and hung it on the hanger inside the door. Then she proceded to her desk, the desk that Mulder finally had gotten for her. "Why?" Mulder's voice was low, and if Scully had looked up at him at that moment, she would have seen that his eyes were full with anger and hurt. But she didn't look up at him. In stead she sat down behind her desk, and put on the computer. "What, Mulder?" she said, as she read through her e-mail. "Why?" His voice was louder, and this time she could here the anger in his voice. She looked up from her computer. She could see the anger on his face. Why was he so angry? It couldn't be because she'd been late, because it had only been 15 minutes, and he wasn't one for getting into the office on time himself. "What is it, Mulder?" she asked, worried that something horrible had happened. He didn't answer her. He rose from his chair and took a file from the desk. Then he walked over to her and threw the file in front of her. "This!" he said. His voice was very calm, but she could still hear the anger. She was confused. He was angry about a file? Why did he take it out on her? But when she opened it she understood everything. The first thing she saw when she opened the file, was a photo of herself and Cancerman. Together on the same picture. She looked up at him. "Where did you get this?" she asked him. He didn't asnwer. He just looked at her. She turned her eyes to the file again, and read what was in it. It was reports on Mulder. Signed by her! "Mulder" she started, but he interrupted her. "How the hell could you?!" he screamed at her. "How the hell could you betray me like this?! I trusted you, you fucking bitch!" Scully kept telling herself 'I will not be afraid. This is Mulder. He would never hurt me.' But she wasn't so sure. She had never seen Mulder this angry and until he let her speak, there was nothing she could do. She got up from her chair and backed away from him, but that made him even more angrier. He followed her and pushed her up against a file cabinet. She was pinned between his body and the cabinet, and there was no way she could get out of it. Mulder grabbed her wrists and held them up over her head. "*Why*?" he asked her again. "*Why* did you do it? Have you been a part of them the whole time? Or have you just gotten sick of me and decided you could write reports on me so they can close the X-Files? Or maybe you're sleeping with the bastard?! Is that it?! Is that why you look so chummy with him on that picture, is it? Oh, you must have had a lot of laughs, talking about what a sucker I am, trusting you." He was rambling on and Scully stayed quiet. At this point, she didn't dare to speak before Mulder wanted her to. Mulder let out a bitter laugh. "I can't believe I actually let you into my life" he told her. He loosened his grip on Scully's wrists, and she quickly got away from him. But he was faster than her. He grabbed her again and this time he pushed her up against the wall. "Mulder," she said "listen to me. *Please*." She was begging him to let her speak. He was quiet, and she took it as her chance to tell him she had never seen those files before. She raised her right hand and gently touched his face with it. He flinched at her touch, as if he had been burned, but she kept her hand on his cheek. "Mulder" she said again. Her voice was so low he could barely hear it. "I would never betray you like that, Mulder" she said. "*Never*. You have to believe me, I haven't written those reports." She looked him straight into the eyes, and she could see the doubt in them, so she continued. "I have *never* had a meeting with Cancerman, Mulder. That picture must be faked, because it could never have been taken. I'm sure that if we go down to the lab, they'll find that it's been manipulated." She was still stroking his cheek with her hand, speaking with a calm and soft voice, anything to try and make him understand. "I haven't done anything Mulder." She searched his eyes for forgivness, but now all the anger was back in them. He refused to believe her. "Shut up!" he yelled. "Just shut up! You're a liar! You've betrayed me!" He pushed her hand away from his face, and again placed both of her hands over her head. "Mulder, you're hurting me!" Scully screamed back at him. He had her pushed up against the wall, and he was crushing her with his body. But Mulder didn't react to her words. All he could see before him was the woman he had trusted. The woman he had loved. The woman who he thought had betrayed him. Scully started crying. She couldn't hold back the tears anymore. She had to make Mulder believe her. How could he fall for this lie so easily? "Mulder" she cried. "I didn't do it, you have to believe me". Her whole body was shaking under him. Suddenly, he started to feel doubt. This wasn't the Scully he knew. The Scully he knew never cried. If she had lied to him, she would've admitted it. He could call her a lot of things, but not a coward who didn't have the guts to stand up for what she'd done. But he pushed those feelings away. He wouldn't believe her. He had seen the proof himself. He was so angry! Scully had to think fast. He didn't believe her. So she kissed him. She brought her lips up to his, and kissed him hard. Her lips was so soft against his. He hated himself for it, but as he felt her lips on his, all the anger flooded out of him. All he could think of, was how much he actually loved this woman. He let go of her hands and placed his arms around her waist, pulling her even closer to his body. He opened her mouth with his tounge and deepened the kiss. He could feel his arousal building, and he knew that she was just as aroused as he was, because he could feel her breathing hard under the kisses, and she was pushing herself against him. But then he remembered. his mind screamed at him. Quickly, he pulled away from her. How could he have let her fool him like that? How could he have fallen for her act?! Kissing him like that. Of course she had done it jus to get away from him, to make him forget all she had done to him. And she had fooled him, even if it had only been for half a minute. Ha had to admit that she was a pretty good actress. "Get out of here" he told her in that low, angry voice, but Scully just stared at him. God, she loved him. She had to make him believe her. She had felt that he wanted to, she had felt the anger drip away from him when they had kissed, but then suddenly he had turned stiff again and pulled away from her. "Mulder" she said and tried to get close to him again, but he walked away from her. "Just go, Scully" he said. "Just go. I don't want to hurt you, no matter what you've done, and if you stay here, I don't know what I'll do." She couldn't go. She couldn't leave with him still believing that she had betrayed him. She would stay. "I'm not going" she simply said, looking him straight in the eyes. Why did she have to be so damn stubborn?! Why couldn't she just leave before he didn something he would regret? He grabbed her arm, thinking that if she didn't leave on her own, he would force her out of the office. But Scully pulled her arm away from his hands, moved into the room, and stood there with her hands at her hips. "I'm not going" she said again. "I'm not leaving this place until you believe me". He gave up. "Fine" he said, and sat down at his desk again, waiting for her to start explaining herself. Why did he even let her? She was just going to tell him more lies, he knew, but something inside him told him to just shut up and listen to her. Had he just told her to speak? Yes, he had. Scully sighed with relief. Now all she had to do was make her believe her. And that was not an easy thing to do, especially not when it came to him, a man who lived by the words "trust no one". But he *had* trusted her. And she would make him trust her again. She almost lost her nerve when she looked at him again. His eyes were still full with hate, but she had to go on. And she did. "When I first came to work with you all those years ago, it was to debunk you and the X-files." She didn't need to look at him now to know that his expression said: "No! Really?" She knew that he had known that all along. But she didn't look at him. In stead she kept on talking. "But after our first case together I knew I couldn't do it. *Never*. I remember when I came into your room, when I thought I had those marks on my back. You took care of me that night. And when you told me about Samantha I knew that I could never betray your trust." She was silent for a few minutes, as if she was thinking. Mulder stayed silent as well, waiting for her to continue. When she started talking again, Mulder noticed that it wasn't as if she was talking to him anymore, it was as if she was telling herself all of this, letting all her feelings out. "After the X-files was shut down, I didn't know what to do. Then I was abducted and when I was returned I was in a coma. I wanted to die. I didn't want to come back again. But then I heard your voice and you were there with me. You are the only reason I came back again." Mulder didn't even bother to tell her, that if she hadn't been asigned to the X-files, she wouldn't have been abducted in the first place. He just let her go on. "We started working together again, and I was so happy. Happy just to be with you. We've been through so much together. My abduction. My sister's death. Your father's death. I've saved your life, just like you have saved mine. And you were the one to stand by my side when I got the cancer. You were the one who risked your life to find the cure. You haven't found it yet, but at least you tried." This time she did look up at him. And she saw that he was crying. She walked over to him, and took him in her arms, holding his head to her stomach, gently caressing his hair. "How could you think that I'd betrayed you? I've lost just as much as you have to those bastards. Why would I *ever* work *with* them?!" She started crying herself. "I....I love you" she whispered. "I could never hurt you. I could never betray you." Mulder stood up and pulled her to him, holding her body close to his. "I'm sorry..." he said. "I'm sorry...." He said it over and over again until Scully finally lifted her head from his chest and put her fingers over his lips to silence him. "I know" she told him. "I'm sorry too." He looked at her, confused. "What for?" he asked her. She thought about it. "I don't know!" she started laughing. "I don't know. What am I sorry for?" Mulder started laughing too. "I don't know" he answered her. "You're the best thing that's ever happened in my life." He pulled her into a hug again. Then he kissed her on the top of her head. "I love you too" he said after having stopped laughing. "And I'm sorry I didn't ask you before believing you'd betrayed me. I'm sorry. I love you." She looked up at him again. She could see it in his eyes. He loved her. Just as much as she loved him. Slowly, he leaned down towards her, and then they met in a kiss. It was nothing like the earlier kiss. That one had been filled with anger and hate, this was pure love. She opened her mouth to him, and he deepened the kiss even more. His hands flew over her, memorizing every curve on her body, before finally stopping in hair. Her wonderful, soft hair. It felt like silk in his hands. When they broke the kiss, they were both gasping for air. Scully's eyes were still closed, and her lips were swollen from the kiss. Mulder had never seen her look more beautiful. He loved her so much. Once again he held her close. "I'm sorry" he told her again. "I will never let Them get between us again. I trust you." She just looked him in they eyes and said: "Mulder, take me home." Then they both smiled and he did as he had been told.
